King Fahd Causeway
Landsat 8 LandsatLook Image Path 163 Row 42 Acquired 18 Mar 2019 with ROI indicated | Landsat 8 LandsatLook Image zoomed to show entire bridge |
The King Fahd Causeway is a series of bridges and causeways connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The causeway is 25 kilometers long with two 12 meter (m) wide double lanes separated by 1 m. The causeway has many bends in it with the two largest segments lying 62 degrees and 88 degrees east from true South (see photo).
The causeway lays across scan ground track for Landsat sensors. The high reflectivity of the bridge contrasts with the water background, which makes it a suitable line target for medium-resolution satellites (30 m or larger GSD). At resolutions higher than 10-15 m GSD bridge structure and features make this less suitable for analyzing Line Spread Function (LSF). Users may wish to consult high-resolution imagery to understand any local changes or features present on the causeway that would impact analysis.
