Optical Calibration Services and Fees

The USGS/OSL is closing April 1, 2017. The Lab will accept camera calibration requests through 3:00 pm, December 30, 2016. Any request after that shall not be considered. Please see closure announcement here.

Service Code Type of Service Fee
OSL-A: Calibration of aerial mapping cameras $6,550.00
This service corresponds to the following paragraphs in the Report of Calibration:
I. Calibrated Focal Length Text
II. Lens Distortion
III. Lens Resolving Power
IV. Filter Parallelism
V. Shutter Calibration
VII. Principal Points and Fiducial Coordinates
VIII. Distances between Fiducial Marks
OSL-B: Calibration of aerial mapping camera magazine $3,390.00
This service corresponds to the following paragraphs in the Report of Calibration:
VI. Film/Magazine Platen
IX. Stereomodel Flatness
X. System Resolving Power on Film
OSL-C: Magazine-to-camera fit and measurement of platen flatness $1,000.00
This service corresponds to the following paragraph in the Report of Calibration:
VI. Film/Magazine Platen
OSL-D: Glass flash plate $470.00
Glass flash plate is exposed on focal plane of the lens to record fiducial locations.
OSL-E: Glass flash plate with calculations $710.00
Glass flash plate is exposed on focal plane of the lens requiring fiducial or resolution calculations.
OSL-F: Lens/film distortion $1,610.00
Determination of lens/film distortion parameters as reported in the following paragraphs of the Report of Calibration:
XI. Calibrated Focal Length
XII. Lens/Film Distortion
OSL-G: Film resolution $250.00
Film exposed on focal plane of the lens to determine resolving power.

A typical complete calibration of an aerial camera system consists of the following:

  • OSL-A and OSL-B: 153-mm or 88-mm focal length camera with one magazine
  • OSL-A and OSL-C: 305-mm or 210-mm focal length camera with one magazine

Please note:

  • Effective June 1, 2008, the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center will no longer accept Purchase Orders from a private or public entity, foreign country, or international organization. Product orders will only be processed when payment has been received. Credit card orders are preferred since they can be activated immediately. For a listing of other modes of payment, please visit our payment options Web site at http://eros.usgs.gov/#/About_Us/Customer_Service
